Word comes today from a study done in Canada that the drug that the Marijuana Liberal Party proposed to legalize might not be a safe as everybody thinks.
In fact the study says that driving while on pot actually doubles crash risk.
I wonder how Marijuana Bob and newly nominated candidate Grant Gordon will address that while campaigning on the hustings in Toronto-Danforth?
It must have been a slow news day at the Surrey Now what with them running a figment of somebody’s imagination about the Mayor of Surrey gunning for BC Conservative leader John Cummins’s job.
Not only that,you would think with all the shootings in Surrey ( as recently as today),the Now would have better choice of words than gunning in the headline.
The rumor this writer hears is that the B.C. Liberals, in an attempt to salvage their party, are said to be reaching out to the Mayor to replace Christy Clark who has lost traction with the voting public.
That would be like asking a different ships captain to hop aboard the Titanic and replace the existing one after the boat has started to take on water and tilt.
Not gonna happen either,not even in the Now’s wildest imagination.
THEY PULLED THE STORY
SURREY – If Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts is planning to bump B.C. Conservative leader John Cummins out of his job, nobody has bothered to tell her about it – or Cummins, for that matter.
Asked about a rumour that she’s seeking Cummins’ job, Watts responded with laughter.
“I haven’t even given it any thought,” she said Tuesday. “If there’s not a rumour started by 10 o’clock, better start one,” she laughed.
The rumour was news to Cummins, too.
“I hadn’t heard the leadership is up for grabs,” he said Tuesday. “As far as I know, there’s no movement afoot to replace me.”
A recent Angus Reid poll indicates that while the B.C. Conservative Party has gained some ground (up one percent, to 19 per cent) in popularity, Cummins’ popularity had dropped by a point.
According to the poll, NDP leader Adrian Dix enjoys 26 per cent of the vote in the “preferred premier” category, up seven per cent since November, while Liberal Premier Christy Clark has dropped three points to 22 per cent, Cummins dropped one point to eight per cent, and Green Party Leader gained one point, to three per cent.
The polling company interviewed 800 British Columbian men and women between Jan. 27 to 29. The poll results have a margin error of plus/minus 3.5 per cent.

Get your barf bags out!
Gordon Campbell and Christy Clark have screwed things up so much in BC that the Globe and Mail has a story telling the voting public to get ready for Premier Adrian Dix.
To think that the two aforementioned BC Liberals have committed so many gaffes,lies and mistrusts that people will forget the mayhem and damage caused by the NDP in the 1990’s and actually vote NDP ( remember in 2001 anybody you asked denied ever having marked an X For Clark,Dix and the rest of these people).
This is the same Dix who freely admits to sleazily backdating a memo causing his boss to resign in disgrace over the casino scandal.
The same Dix whose list of promises,platforms and ideas would result in tax hikes the likes of which this province has never seen before.
It is beyond comprehension why people would lose their minds and tell pollsters they would vote NDP, never-mind actually following through and doing it.
That in itself is a testament to the mess created by the B.C. Liberals.
Thankfully there are 16 months until the next election and people have still time to snap out of it.
The by-elections in Port Moody and Chilliwack would be good places to start!
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has today called the by=election to file the vacancy left by the death of Jack Layton in the EDA of Toronto-Danforth for March 12,2012.
Voters in this EDA have a history of voting for the two socialist parties the NDP and the Marijuana Liberal Party of Canada.
Even Marijuana Liberal interim Leader Bob Rae held this riding when he was a Federal Dipper back in the late 70’S.
Traditionally governments don’t win by-elections but Layton is probably looking down with more than a passing interest from heaven.
After all,having just been laid to rest,it is a little soon for him to roll over the grave, should the lefties split the vote and the governing Conservatives come up through the middle and win the seat!
A report out today suggests that there will be a major labor shortage in the next 10 years unless the province of B.C. can attract workers to fill the jobs. In fact the net deficit would be some 61,500 more jobs than there would be people to fill them.
Given the tax and spend policies of the NDP and the current NDP lite BC Liberals this should concern everybody.
At present current government tax policy is driving people out of the province at a time when they should be planning and attracting families to prevent this from happening.
It seems our current Premier’s family first agenda applies to families in other provinces and not ones here in British Columbia.
Polls released yesterday show Adrian Dix and the NDP would form a government if a election were held today.
Everybody who reads this poll would be well served to read mark Milke’s exceptional book detailing what happens when people lose their minds and vote in an NDP government.
This poll is like a horror story of what could happen to the economy if the BCNDP came to power. Adrian Dix would star as Freddy Krueger.
One can only imagine how the job deficit figure would climb with these people in power!
It is time for a major change in this province and tax relief is right at the top. The people have spoken and gotten rid of the HST.They now have to finish the job and say goodbye to the BC Liberals and the NDP!
Angus Reid released a new poll today that showed the BC Conservatives gaining ground in Metro Vancouver and the Interior. This is a happy occasion for the party as Mario Canseco of Angus Reid says “their leader is not particularly well-known at this stage and is not carrying any significant momentum on issues”
One can only imagine the heights the party can climb to,once people start paying attention and get to know John Cummins and the policies that the party represents.
Even more troubling for Premier Christy Clark and her Liberals is the fact that the party has dropped below 30% since Gordon Campbell resigned.
Responding to the poll results,the Premier,mentioned that she was too busy thinking about jobs rather than polls.Given the disastrous results of the who would make the best Premier question,I am thinking the job she is most concerned with would be her own!
Sadly,to be a leader and increase your numbers in those type of questions,a Premier must show leadership on important questions such as the pipeline and the jobs that go with that project.. This premier has not.
For a Premier and a Party that relies on photo ops,this poll would be a great snap shot of where the BC Liberal team are headed,to the bottom with the Titanic!
BC Conservative John Martin hits the nail on the head by declaring this province needs a full-time Attorney General.
Lets take a look.
Firstly ,Minister Bond,probably still has her hands full cleaning up the mess(es) left behind by disgraced former Ministers Heed and Les over at the Solicitor Generals office,her other part-time job!.
If that isn’t enough to keep any two people busy,the Attorney General’s qualifications are now being investigated by an outside law firm appointed by the law society.
I would also expect Minister Shirley also has her fingers and toes crossed with this weeks visit to Ottawa by Minister Polak in her meeting with National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Shawn Atleo. ( You remember how Minister Polak was taken to court over problems in the Ministry of Children and Family Development)
That is if she has any fingers and toes left to cross after all the problems with the Basi Virk File.
Makes you wonder,when the Minister takes her next call on the Hockey Riot file,if she will remember which hat to wear.
There must be days when Minister Bond feels like she is a at the PNE bashing the rubber gophers over the head with a mallet.
John Martin is bang on,the Province needs a full time Attorney General.

-You read the polls and know that no matter how much of this mess you are tasked with cleaning up,the people who put you and your government in office are getting ready to fire you.
Right about now ,if you were Kevin Falcon, you are probably wishing you had somebody of your own you could throw under the proverbial bus!
We are truly fortunate that the leader of the PQ is so awful,that even 7 of her MNA’s have left and joined another party.We are extremely lucky that a lot of things members vote on at Annual General Meetings of political parties in this country don’t actually make it on to an election platform and get brought into law.
To wit:Yesterday members at a PQ AGM voted a resolution that would allow John Q or Jean Q citizen to launch a citizen led referendum into independence.
What is wrong with this is that ( Other than referendums are very costly) this resolution could lead the very political party that proposed it to putting one of their own members up to launching a referendum so that they may distance themselves form it when it blows up in their faces.
These are the same people that only a week ago shanked potential leadership candidate Duceppe in the back when it appeared he was considering taking a run at Marois and her leadership.
This is more sleazy dirty politics from the people that told the world they lost the last referendum because of money and the ethnic vote.
Where did Ms.Marois stand in all this? No where,she waited until after the vote to join party members on the floor. Her leadership is so bad that that if she had taken a stance on this or any issue the party would have given her the middle finger and voted the opposite way.
Speaking of waving the middle finger,you should all do that to the Globe and Mail but I will leave that to Dean Skoreyko over at BC Blue to tell you why!
Come on Madam Premier show some leadership and call those by-elections.The folks in those two Provincial Electoral Districts deserve to be represented and it would be great to get those two future MLA’s in the house while the Spring session is on.

Of course the BC Conservatives have not only selected John Martin their candidate but named him their Justice Critic.
Martin has also put the government on notice that both he and his party won’t tolerate garbage incineration finding its way into the region. This topic has the ability to split the BC Liberals down the middle.
The B.C. Liberals are already on their second candidate when the first one realized she was too Liberal to get elected!That nomination meeting will take place on February 4th. It is fitting that they would nominate their candidate last, because in all likelihood that would be the same place as that nominee will finish in the yet to be called by-election.
Meanwhile in Port Moody-Coquitlam we will have to wait until Feb.17 to see who the B.C. Liberal candidate is.Like everything this government does,it takes its time to do a simple thing like nominate a candidate and call a couple of by-elections.
Conservative Christine Clarke ( not to be confused with our week kneed Premier)and NDPer and former Clark buddy Trasolini are already in place and waiting.
Given the track records of sitting governments in by-elections ,and that last time their star candidate ,Premier Christy Clark,only won her seat be the hem of her skirt,I can understand why the Libs are taking their time calling these two.
When all is said and done,they will likely be up the Chilliwack River without a paddle.!
