UPDATE:North American Markets Tank!

Here we go again!

The freight train known as a world-wide recession hurdled itself into on coming traffic in North America today with our own TSX dropping nearly 3% today.

Speculation abounds that at some point later this afternoon Moody’s will Down Grade 17 banks around the world including our own RBC .

In addition,Bank Of Canada Governor,Mark Carney reminded us that our economy has been running on the fumes the fumes of borrowed money.

Oil also dropped to $78.20 per barrel.

Manufacturing around the world also hit lows although you can’t always believe figures from China until the goods are on the boat.( It’s probably worse than they say)

The Big Elephant in the room? Spain? No that’s tiny compared to Italy!

What do you think will happen?

Stay Tuned!

Update: As expected Moody’s cut ratings including RBC.

On October 21 the BCNDP and Adrian Dix will get a chance to define themselves!

Who will Win Mayor Moonbeams old Riding?

The coming battle between Geoff Meggs and George Heyman in Vancouver Fairview will present Adrian Dix and the BCNDP at chance to define themselves.

In one corner you have Geoff ( I declare war on the car and lean-to the far left ) Meggs versus George ( I am in the center and would have made a good leader) Heyman.

This nomination will be worth watching for a lot of reasons:

Will Adrian come out and support buddy Geoff sending a message he like his friends and that the party is veering left?

Will he support George and send a centrist message to the voting public?

Will Meggs if he wins immediately resign his municipal Councillors seat?

Will Mayor Moonbeam get involved and demonstrate a win for Meggs means bicycle lanes across the province? ( Maybe they will put one up one the Pat Bay Highway from the ferry terminal to the legislature for Meggs to peddle his way to work?)

Will George learn the hard way that even though he thinks he is going to win there will be a busload of last-minute membership sign ups for Meggs enabling him to defeat from the jaws of certain victory?

Will Adrian sit squarely on the fence, support neither of them and still profess to be a leader?

What do you think, will this race define the BCNDP?

Stephanie Cadieux Should Resign!

Stephanie Cadieux: It’s Okay I didn’t know what I was talking about!

“She said that was not explained to the public when she called for an end to the bonus program last fall, because she was unclear how it all worked at the time.”

The above is a statement from Social Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux explaining why the bonuses were simply not taken away from Community Living Executives last fall and instead rolled into their pay packets as raises.

Most people are screaming that it is disgusting that Senior Executives were rewarded after being involved in a scandal and rightly so.

I find it even more incomprehensible to me that this Minister shot her mouth off without knowing how the process worked!

Incomprehensible but not surprising as this is a trait of Christy Clark and her Ministers, namely talking first and thinking second!

Have you had enough of these people yet?

Trudeau Praises Kenney; Says he is Nothing like Nixon!

Politicians have been known to Tweet before they think!

Justin Trudeau took to Twitter today to tweet that Jason Kenney was nothing like Richard Nixon because Nixon apologized to his dad after calling him an asshole.

Most of us are glad Jason Kenney is nothing like Richard Nixon. Most readers will recall Nixon losing the Presidency after “Watergate” became public.

For not being a crook we a applaud Minister Kenney and thank Mr. Trudeau for reminding us of his good character!

Latest poll shows Trudeau frontrunner in Liberal Leadership!

42% of Polled Canadians think this is the guy to lead the Liberal Party Back to Prominence. Will the those same people allow their taxes to be increased so that we may build hospital rooms so that they may be committed?

Uh huh. Most Liberals polled will back Justin Trudeau if he runs to become leader of the Liberal Party!

Canadians polled pick Trudeau to be the leader to revive the Liberal Party and restore it to first place ( 40% for Liberals with Trudeau,30% For Conservatives and 21% for the Dippers.

What has always baffled me about politics and leadership contests in general is that Canadians always seem to want the guy who doesn’t want the job.

In Trudeau’s case he has told the Liberal Party some many times, you kind of want to get the barf bag every time they ask the question.

In most Leadership books I have read, one of the top qualities of successful leaders is that they have to want to lead.

If they don’t, no matter how much begging you do when they eventually kowtow to what people want they fail miserably.

There are leaders that say no because while they are chicken, as in Justin probably didn’t want to run against Bob because well he thought Bob would win and didn’t want to go through that.

Chicken because they don’t want to be hammered in the press or by campaign advertising. ( Justin will make a mess of and alienate Western Canadians just like his father did!)

Some have the potential to lead but aren’t ready for the scope of the job that people want them to lead.

I have a hard time envisioning Justin Trudeau on the national stage representing Canada as PM in an emergency economic summit meeting. ( If you are still wondering why revisit the picture at the top of this post)

What about you, do you think Justin Trudeau is leadership material or is he a chicken?

Greece Elections: We are not quite out of the woods yet!

I won! now what?

The Pro Bailout forces have prevailed in today’s Greek elections.

However there are still a couple of things to watch for:

1) Will they be able to form a coalition that lasts ? ( Unlike the last one that didn’t)

2) Will the New Democracy part back off their idea of trying to re-negotiate the bailout agreement?

If they don’t and the folks in Berlin don’t like what they see and hear all bets are off. ( This relates to any monkeying around of deficit targets the Greeks might want to change)

So keep your hand basket at the ready.

What do you think?

Will cooler, saner heads prevail or will today’s result no matter what happens just prolong the inevitable?

The Specter (Horror) of an Ontario Election!

BOO!

While we wait for the results from Greece why not turn our guns I mean attention to Ontario, the have not promise that is still haunted by the Ghost of Bob Rae.

I am talking about provincial Bob, the former Premier who has gone on the bigger and better things as the Interim leader of the dying Federal Liberal Party.

Why is it Bob is always around when things start to die off.

But I digress.

This week and since April Ontario voters have been haunted ( nauseated is probably a better word) at all the BS coming out of Queen’s Park relative to discussions between Dalton ( I don’t have a clue what I am doing but I sure know how to run a deficit) McGuinty and Andrea ( Will people please quit reminding Ontarians how much my party and Bob Rae screwed up the last time we were in power) Horwath trying to save the Liberals recent budget.

In a stroke of genius ( Genius is a BC word we use to describe stupid things Christy Clark and the BC Liberals do),Horwath walked away from an earlier agreement with Dalton ( Hey I can always run for the Federal liberal leadership if I blow my minority parliament) McGuinty and introduced amendments to the budget legislation that Tim ( I lost an election I should have won) Hudak immediately supported.

This caught Andrea ( I didn’t think that far ahead) Horwath off guard and now the Province of ( Hey western Canada your bloody oil is screwing up our manufacturing) Ontario is bracing for an election in neither wants, needs or can afford.

So where does Bob ( I didn’t run for liberal leadership because I didn’t want to do to Canada what I did for Ontario) fit into this?

The voters are terrorized by his memory and think a snap election could result in yet another NDP government taking a have not province into even greater depths of havenotery (My word).

Here is a comment from one such terrorized voter : Horwath and the rest of her communist/socialist cohort prove once again that when push comes to shove they would rather sit behind the safety of their rock and throw sticks and stones & manipulate the press then really tackle the issue and call McGuinty’s bluff. There is a reason the NDP will never be leaders and it is never more obvious then right now!

Kinda speaks for itself doesn’t it!

Do you think Ontario will be plunged into a needless election and elect an NDP government led by Andrea( She’s a knucklehead along the same lines as Christy Clark) Horwath?

Can you imagine the mess she would make not only of the province but also the country?

Greece Goes to the Polls!

The radical left Siryza clamoring for their money back after a shitty plate of calamari at their local restaurant!

Tomorrow, Sunday, the good citizens of Greece go to the polls while the whole world waits out the calamity that it will be, should the left leaning Syriza win the election.

This party has been surging in the polls with the depressed Greeks considering casting a protest vote over the bailout deal that has been worked on for awhile.

With their apparent surge coupled with the strength of the New Democracy party there will probably be no clear cut winner.

This will lead to a coalition.( Horror of horrors where have we heard that word before).

Should the Syriza somehow win you can expect very quickly the markets will go to hell in a hand basket.

This also will cause major economic mayhem that will not only affect Spain and Italy but have far reaching affects across the ocean.( Canadian and US banks for example hold bonds on those countries so if they default we start down the slippery slope of recession)

So in this country, when the pollsters call and when you cast your vote, remember the mess that socialists cause and think at least twice if not more before you vote BCNDP or Federal NDP.

My prediction the Greeks will screw up and vote a shaky coalition thereby causing mayhem in their country and force another election anyways.

Why will the coalition not work? One wants a bailout the other doesn’t. They will never get along.

The end result: We reached the end of the runway ( Stole that from PM Harper) and 2008 will likely seem like a walk in the park!

What do you think?

Adrian Dix ; A Discriminating Look at a Potential Premier!

Adrian Dix ; White men need not apply!

So the latest poll shows farebeater and NDP leader Adrian Dix picking up a few points in the best overall potential premier category dropping soon to be deposed BC Liberal Leader and current Premier Christy Clark into second place.

If Dix wins what will he stand for?

Today we begin an 11 month long series into what BC Might look like under Adrian Dix,

We will begin with..Discrimination.

At the recent BC NDP Annual convention Dix went on the record when he said “as of the 2013 provincial election, elected female NDP MLAs who retire will only be able to be replaced with another woman. Male MLAs who retire will have to be replaced with either a woman or a member of an equity-seeking group, such as a member of a First Nation.”

In other words if you are not a woman nor a part of an equity-seeking group you need not apply.

Dix passes the off as controversial and says it will affect only a small number of seats because the BCNDP is so sure they are going to win nobody will quit.

It is a lot more than controversial, it is basic discrimination aka racism.

But to Dix and his party a little bit of discrimination is okay as long as it is contained.

If you were a regular company posting this as part of a job ad you would be drawn and quartered by both the labor board and a human rights council.

So in a BC under Adrian Dix and the BC NDP discrimination is acceptable.

Is this what you want your province to look like?

Lead, Follow or Get out of the Way!

I solemnly swear to be the best Follower I can be because I don’t have a clue how to Lead. I will do so until I am shown the door and told to Get Out of the way!

Nice I headline to start today’s blog. I didn’t make that up either.( As in just like the headline I didn’t make up yesterday if you are new to my blog).

It comes via a friend from Thomas Paine one of the founding fathers of the gold ole USA and can be found in his paper ” The Crisis”

It is a fitting metaphor that political writers use when political leaders are in over their head and decide to be followers rather than leaders.

Our current and soon to be deposed Premier Christy Clark finds herself in a “Crisis” of her own making in that rather than doing the things she promised to do when she ran to be the leader she chose to be a follower of her people in Cabinet.

These would be the same people who created the mess that she had the opportunity to show leadership on when she first became Premier un-elect.

So now, as the quote says she will likely be told to get out of the way.

How long do you think it will take?
