Election 42- Death of the NDP #Elxn42 #bcpoli #canpoli

Tom Mulcair and the NDP are toast!

This was the election that was the referendum on Stephen Harper.

It was dubbed as the Anybody but Harper campaign.

It ended badly for Mr.Harper we know that now.

The Conservatives, on the other hand will live another day.

The NDP might not be so fortunate.

Before the election was dubbed the “Anybody but Harper Campaign” the discussion centered around whether the left could exist as two bodies and defeat the Conservatives without splitting the vote.

That was put to the test in this election and from where I sat and watched only one survived.

As soon as Tom Mulcair said the NDP stood for balanced budgets they became Harper lite.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberals pounced and said they would run deficits creating a clear choice in the voting public’s mind. Would they vote for Harper and the Conservatives ( Which the NDP was now lumped) or would they vote for Liberal deficits and spending.

While the voters where mulling that over, Thomas Mulcair put what I think was the final nail in his and the NDP coffin.

It wasn’t the niqab ( although that didn’t help him ).

At the September 28 debate Thomes Mulcair shot him and his party squarely in the foot.

Mulcair invoked the death of Justin Trudeau’s father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

Trudeau made a passionate defense of his father as would I of mine.

Trudeau took full control from that moment on and made the voters choice easy, a compassionate party with a left leaning economic vision versus two balanced budget parties that were mean.

In my mind the election was over that night.

At the same time the Trudeau Liberals swallowed up the NDP and gave those progressive voters a home they could win on.

And win they did.

Next election the economy will still be the topic ( It always is) but the NDP wont have much to say in the outcome.

It will be tax and spend of the Liberals versus the Conservatives fiscal economic planning.

The Conservatives will have a new leader who will have gotten the message from last night.

There will be no Anybody But Harper Campaign. The fight will be for those new voters who came out this time.

The NDP? There is no longer room for them, they had their chance.

They blew it.

They will not recover.

Jack Layton must be rolling in his grave!

NDP Parties Canada Wide: 2013 is Not a Good Year! #bcpoli #bcndp #bcleg #onpoli #canpoli

No Way Am I Giving Up The Best Job I Ever Had!

No wonder the Andrea Horwath Ontario NDP government is propping up one of the most corrupt governments in Ontario’s history.

It’s not because of what they can pry out of the government to keep them afloat ( gas plants be damned eh!).

It is because 2013 is a bad year to be a dipper!

They got hammered in the recent BC election, got hammered last night in Nova Scotia (no matter how much of a spin Lori Turnbull tries to put on it) and are getting killed in the polls that once gave them a ray of hope.

Should Andrea do the right thing and pull the pin on this scandalous Liberal government rest assured the people of Ontario will either lose their minds and vote in a majority Liberal government or do the sane thing and vote in a renewed Ontario PC team. The NDP will once again be on the outside looking in.

The NDP desperately needs a decent platform to take the voters minds off the failure of that parties government during the Bob Rae years.( the voters will remember, fair or not,the mess the NDP made when Rae was premier just as the voters remembered the problems of Dix’s past).

You get imagine the negative ads in the can about the NDP and Rae days etc.

Nope, If Andrea pulls the pin on the minority government in Ontario she will be another statistic in a bad year for the NDP.

Despite all the blustering and saber-rattling I would expect that there will be no Ontario election until at least the spring, that is until 2013 gets in the NDP’s rear view mirror.

Will I be right?

It’s Mulcair ; Now what ?

Thomas Mulcair has won the leadership of the Federal NDP and is the new leader of the opposition , Now what?

He will more than likely move the party to the center and most likely very quickly.

What will this mean to Canadian politics?

First and foremost it will almost certainly force the Liberal party of Canada to advance their own leadership convention.

Why?

Because Mulcair and the NDP will devour the Liberals if they get control of the center and Marijuana Bob wouldn’t like that.

Also the interim leader of the Liberal Party,  under it’s constitution,  cannot negotiate a merger with the NDP. They need a permanent leader, it’s as simple as that.

What else?

It will probably force a lot of the extreme leftists that are currently have a home in the NDP to go somewhere else. ( Hello Elizabeth May and the Green Party you belong together )

Anything else?

Yes the right side of the Liberal Party will likely bolt to the Conservatives rather than join the NDP.

That it?

No the Bloc had hopes and aspirations going into today. Thomas Mulcair probably killed them off.

Anything good come of all this?

Yes likely the Liberal Party as you know it is done, so is the Bloc?

Any last thoughts?

Yes given all the mayhem and delays in the voting today , Rebecca Blaikie handle herself well. She is a good President of the NDP and has a lot to be proud of.
